Writer • Photographer • Public Relations

Shelby Coppola is a Brooklyn-based poet and photographer who is a PR professional by day and creative by night. Currently, she is working on a creative memoir that shares the reality of how it is to love someone who struggles with addiction and the process of moving forward with grief after the fateful overdose. In her downtime, this francophile can be found traveling, taking film photography, reading a book or spinning vinyl as she types away on her vintage typewriter in her urban backyard.

"I believe words are healing. They are connectors that bring people together, but also have the power to tear them apart. I use writing to express feeling, to understand the human condition. To show others we are never alone. It is my effort to capture the ephemera that we can never truly hold onto. For me, writing brings peace, hope and possibility."

Writer

Shelby began writing at a young age; mashing together her own words, engaging her imagination to process the world around her. At age 20 she decided she wanted to become a screenwriter before she graduated college with her B.A in English. In 2016 she moved to New York after getting a P.A job on Gotham Season 3, and has been there ever since. Three years into her film career, the death of her late-boyfriend ignited a spark. Coppola quit the grueling world of film production to make a living doing what she loves; writing.

Shelby Coppola began doing PR in 2020 with Hummingbird Media, managing clients in the Professional and Consumer Audio space. Nearly three years into this career, she continues to maintain clients with Hummingbird, but has also broadened her scope  by personally representing small lifestyle brands and creatives that offer valuable, creative and niche services.

Shelby began to see the world differently when she exchanged her phone for a film camera. She leaned into 120mm, shooting analog on a Hasselblad built in the late 1950's. With 12 exposures per roll, Shelby chose her frame carefully, adjusting the aperture and selecting the exposure by instinct. Behind the lens she captures the energy of life and people as they are, preserving the moment forever.
